Forschungsinstitut für biologischen Landbau
As one of the world’s leading organisations for research and technology transfer in organic agriculture, the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL) in Switzerland employs more than 170 people working in 6 departments (www.fibl.org). So far, FiBL has partnered over 30 European research projects, several of them in EU-Framework or cofund programmes, such as FP7, Horizon 2020 or CORE Organic.
The Department for Livestock Sciences, has particular expertise in Animal Health and Welfare, Breeding, Animal Nutrition and in production development for insect-based feed protein. The close links between different areas of research and the extensive exchange of knowledge between research and practice are particular strengths of FiBL and of its livestock department. Based on a large on-farm network, the Department of Livestock Sciences conducts successful on-farm research projects, in particular regarding animal health and nutrition, which connects very practice oriented approaches with scientifically sound experimental schedules.
The close collaboration with the Department of Extension, Training and Communication ensures excellence regarding the implementation of improvements of the scientific knowledge base into agricultural practice via nationally and internationally well-received workshops, articles in farmers’ magazines, courses, lectures in agricultural schools, websites, practical leaflets and other channels. FiBL is working in close collaboration with the Swiss organic label organisation Bio Suisse, with IFOAM-EU and IFOAM – Organics International.
