Stakeholders
SMARTER is a multi-actor approach project between academic and key European stakeholders, including 13 non-academic partners and various other stakeholders gathered in the stakeholder platform. The objective of SMARTER, which is basically to select for efficiency and resilience traits in small ruminants by harnessing at the best the international cooperation in the genomic era, justifies the major role of stakeholders in the project.
The involvement of the stakeholders was promoted at the very beginning of the conception of the project. As an illustration, a 2-day meeting was organised in Urugne (France) in 2016, during which technicians and farmers from breeding organisations and breeding industry from French sheep and goat breeds were invited to express and share their view on the objectives and priorities of SMARTER. This process will continue throughout the project and thus underlines the importance of the stakeholders as end-users of SMARTER outcomes.
